There is an apt saying “Whatever you believe about India, the opposite is also true.” Yet, we believe that after 75+ years of independence, a billion plus Indians have begun to dream bigger and act with confidence. The pivot from an industrial to a digital world offers India the ability to leapfrog the accepted linear technology path.
Thankfully the Indian government’s unique digital infrastructure (analogous to the US physical infrastructure) allows for unique tools and business models to better achieve the aspirations of India’s billion plus citizens. We believe the trifecta of India’s demographics and democracy, the global pivot from industrial to digital, and India’s unique digital infrastructure is creating a fertile environment for a Cambrian explosion, with opportunities galore.
Our chosen thread to participate in this tapestry is what the world calls investing.
We manifest our investing credo in a unique 3 way partnership. We make a best effort attempt to dream through our investee companies of what India can become (our winners) and at times lament on what could have been (our losers) – but we will not be sorry because we will always compound, either knowledge, returns, or both. This association of the investing team and investee companies is made resilient by the patient capital that our limited partners bring. They allow us to compound our acumen, relationships, and wealth through the thick and thin of market vagaries as the world pivots to the digital era.
Our entrepreneurs are our “gurus” – we partner with them not just to compound wealth but also perspectives and relationships. Each of these honest and hopefully long partnership will iteratively make us better future partners, and hopefully makes the entrepreneurs better builders for the future.
This is what we call “terminal value” – the ability to play long term games with long term people. We take immense pains in seeking this alignment between our entrepreneurs, our limited partners, and us as the “investing team”.
